An amazing combination of rural charm, abundant natural resources and a relaxed pace make Polk County the perfect place to visit or settle down.  Polk County is just small enough to feel genuine community togetherness, but big enough to provide residents and visitors with significant metropolitan amenities.  Polk County is located in the Pine Forest of East Texas and is bounded on the southwest by the Trinity River and on the Northeast by the Neches River.  Its southern boundary is approximately 70 miles north of Houston.

The County has a long history of human settlement and was initially the home of several Indian Tribes that inhabited Texas.  Many present day streams still bear the name of famous Indian Chiefs.  Nestled deep in the Big Thicket of East Texas lays Texas' oldest Indian Reservation, home of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas.  Approximately 500 tribal members call these 4,600 acres of timberland near Livingston, Texas in Polk County their home.

Polk County is one of the fastest growing areas in East Texas.  The cities of Corrigan, Goodrich, Onalaska, Seven Oaks and Livingston, (the county seat) make up the region.  Polk County spreads out over 1,072 square miles.

Our sparkling 93,000 acre Lake Livingston is just the beginning for what awaits you in Polk County.  A world of recreational opportunities provided by the lake and countless other natural reserves attract visitors.  Bring your picnic basket as you drive our scenic roads that wind in and out of miles of rolling hills and majestic pine forests that reach up and kiss the wide open Texas sky.

Enjoy a flavorful blend of spacious wilderness, boundless recreational activities and unique shopping and dining opportunities that are sure to tempt any age.  Stop in the Chamber, where we will give you the right directions.  We invite YOU to “COME HOME” to beautiful Polk County, Texas.
